This audio series explains how the Texas electric grid evolved from a century ago to today — and how the choices made along the way contributed to the deadly blackouts in February 2021.

Our team spent months researching, interviewing and figuring out the best way to explain a complicated subject to a general audience. We took a narrative approach to each element of the story, including what we believe is the most thorough explanation of what exactly happened during the week of the blackouts.

We present all of this information through in-depth, but accessible, storytelling. We believe that our series has deepened our understanding of the electric grid, which for many people simply existed unseen in the background — until it failed tragically.

The series consists of four core episodes, but there are also several bonus episodes available that delve into topics that didn't quite fit into the core series.
