There is no safe level for lead in a child’s blood but elevated lead levels are especially dangerous for children.

Lead in the blood for children can cause learning disabilities, behavioral issues and elevated anxiety.

When examining the issue at the county level there is the appearance that lead poisoning is not a critical issue. However using data broken down by zip codes obtained with a Texas public information request to the State Health and Human Services Department we are able to expose that there are pockets in San Antonio where the lead level are unacceptably high. The reporting in this special series exposed that the state of Texas has this data but is not making it available to the public or to local health departments.
