Crafting Explanatory Narratives for the Airwaves

A multiple winner in this category, KUT News Radio reporter Mose Buchele says the main secret to powerful radio narratives comes down to time: time to devote though to structure, sound, and storytelling devices, time to talk it out with people as many times as possible, and time to just think it out.

“As much as I respect deadlines, I also try to sometimes push them back as far as I can,” Buchele told Foundation Chairman Mark Morrison. “Especially when I know spending time on them can really produce something special.”

Buchele, the 2019 Star Radio Reporter of the Year, took a moment to visit with Morrison to discuss his award-winning reporting — including his ongoing coverage of plans for a pipeline in the Texas Hill Country.
