Throughout its thirty-plus year existence, the Headliners Foundation has been fortunate to have the support of individuals and families who have established named memorials through their donations in support of the Foundation’s Scholarship program.  In a recent reorganization of its scholarship awards program, the Foundation Board voted to establish the Founders’ Scholarship Fund, named in remembrance of the contributions of these early benefactors, to be the funding vehicle for all Foundation scholarships and to provide matching grants for substantial future gifts in support of journalism education.

The persons memorialized in the Founders’ Scholarship Fund are listed below.  Each name listed is linked to a brief biography of that person. In addition to the scholarships below, the Headliners Foundation was one of the early benefactors of the Joe Roddy, Jr. Broadcast News Scholarship at the University of Texas.

Jimmy Banks
Barry Bishop
Paul Bolton
George Christian
John “Brick” Elliott
Wilbur Evans
Jack E. Keever
George Moore
Darrell Royal
Sam S. Wood

In addition to the above scholarships, the Headliners Foundation awards a scholarship on behalf of the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters (TAPB) to a student practicing broadcast or multimedia journalism at a university in Texas. In addition to the scholarship, the Foundation partners with the TAPB to recognize and reward broadcasters for excellence in journalism. Contest information can be viewed on the Awards page. More information about the TAPB can be found here.
