CHANNEL 5 NEWS reporter Melissa Correa uncovered discrepancies and inconsistencies on crime statistics the Weslaco Police Department submitted for Uniform Crime Reports. The submitted reports included errors, such as listing a 12-year-old as the victim of a family violence case and a 12-year-old as the offender. According to the report, the two were common-law spouses. Some of these reports are posted on the web page for viewers to see.
Crime statistics can impact laws and funding for law enforcement. To help visitors see crime statistics for their cities, the statistics were added to the webpage as spreadsheets and PDF files.
